WEST COLUMBIA, SC – As the State Senate debates a new bill to mandate voter photo ID at the polls, Bill Connor released the following statement:

“As a candidate for statewide office in South Carolina, I understand the need to make sure our elections are fair and open. Fair elections are at the heart of what our men and women are fighting for in Iraq and Afghanistan today.

Mandating that the voters at the polls are who they say they are is a small but important step to ensuring fair elections. In an atmosphere where left-wing organizations like ACORN have orchestrated vote fraud around the country, prudence demands that we take this step to avoid problems here.

ACORN liberals in the State Senate have chosen to play politics with this legislation and are trying to stall so that these important reforms cannot impact this year’s primary and general elections. I call on our Senate to join the House and pass this important legislation without further delay so that South Carolinians can know that their elections have been conducted fairly and their votes counted properly.”

Bill Connor is a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserves who received the Bronze Star for his service in combat as the senior American advisor in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. In addition to his Reserve duties, Bill serves as the Chairman of the Board of Orangeburg Christian Academy. Bill is a graduate of the Citadel and USC Law School. Bill lives in Orangeburg with Susan, his wife of 18 years, and their three children Peyton, Brenna, and Will. They attend Christ Church of the Carolinas in Columbia.
